What Active Learning Does

Active Learning involves the children learning through outdoor games, sports, dance, drama, music, art as well as the usual nursery curriculum you would normally expect. Whereas some nurseries offer a little taste of some dance or sport or music, provided by outside teachers, our nursery revolves around these activities. It’s a little like a Performing Arts School for little ones. Since children are often at their most creative at this age, acting out stories, singing, making up songs, surely this has to be their dream environment where they are encouraged to do this all day long.

But this is not easy to provide and we need very special people to help us. At Active Learning staff are our lifeline and the foundations of our success. We need highly enthusiastic, happy people on board to make this happen, people who are full of the joy of life, bouncing with energy, and who will be infectious with their enthusiasm for what we are trying to achieve. If we recruit the right people, Active Learning will be a joyous place to spend time, either as a child, member of staff or a parent.

Finally, Active Learning is established to help children develop a love of learning. Our educational philosophy is based on being able to identify the individual needs, talents and abilities of each individual child, and to help them develop these at a pace that makes sense for that particular child. If a child demonstrates an advanced interest at age 2 or 3 in terms of words, reading, writing and numbers and maths, we must encourage this to help that child develop. If we don’t the child will become bored and lose interest in education later on. If a child appears to be uninterested in numbers and words at the same age we must try to help instil in that child an interest in education. Active Learning We don’t believe in hot housing children, or making them fill in form sheets. But we believe we can capture the interest of any child by creating fun and challenging opportunities for them to learn through all of our varied activities.

But we aim to make staff happy too.
